This renovated fourplex in the Oakland Hills was stripped back to create a completely new aesthetic based on the existing structure. At the exterior, as seen above, the existing stucco was patched, repainted, and partially covered with an Ipe rainscreen. Metal fixtures, mailboxes, and numbers were added as modernist accents and the entire structure is painted in variations of green, grey and black, acceted by the natural finishes. |

This is a rendering for a entitlement study for a small lot in Piedmont, near Oakland CA. The facade is a study in using repetitive elements with slight variants to create a unified massing that has some elements of individuality. Panelized glazing at the living space allow the glow from the televisions to translate to the exterior without a loss of privacy. Wide swaths of highly insulated walls help to offset the heat loss at the glazing, while also providing a canvas for hand crafted exterior tiles. |
